I’m starting a new service: the IT scan. A complete picture of a small business’s IT, with a report in plain language. I’m doing the first three for free.

Free can easily sound like a sales trick. So here’s why I’m doing it this way, and what you can and can’t expect.

Why an IT scan

Most small businesses don’t have an IT department. That makes sense, but then IT grows on its own: a separate subscription here, a shared account there, and a backup nobody knows works. As long as things go well, nobody notices.

The scan maps that out. I look at eight areas, from software and subscriptions to accounts, backups, e-mail security, your domain, your website, your devices and the manual work that comes back every week. Part of it I check automatically; the rest we go through in a questionnaire and an intake.

Why the first three are free

I know what belongs in the scan. What I don’t know yet is whether the setup is exactly right in practice:

  • Is the questionnaire clear, or are there questions nobody understands?
  • Is a report of 3 to 5 pages the right length?
  • Are the priorities right, and is the report usable if you want to carry on yourself?
  • How much time does it really take, on your side and on mine?

I can only learn that by doing it. Only then can I put a fair price on it. I’d rather charge for something I know works than guess.

What you get

The same as with a paid scan later:

  • A traffic light per area, so you see at a glance what’s fine and what isn’t.
  • The three biggest risks and the three biggest savings.
  • A 30 to 45 minute conversation where we go through everything together.
  • A proposal for what you could improve, with a price indication if you’d like me to do it.

The report is yours. Even if you don’t do anything with me afterwards, or fix everything yourself.

What I ask in return

Honest feedback. What was clear, what wasn’t, what would you have liked to see differently? And if you’re happy, a short quote I can put on the site. That’s all. You’re not tied to anything: implementation and management are optional.

Who it’s for

Freelancers and businesses up to about 50 people, without their own IT department. You don’t need to be technical: the report is in plain language, and we go through everything together in the conversation.
